1. Don't remember your identity number?
Internet Identity Self-Service Tool
- Your identities saved in the local browser storage are automatically displayed in the list.
- Your passkey-based identities can be discovered using the “Lookup by passkey” button.
- Your passkey manager / hardware authentication device can be tested for II compatibility using the “Test passkey support” button.
- If still stuck, users can export all the diagnostics and attach them to a support ticket using the “Export JSON” button.
2. Do I need to upgrade before a certain date?
No. Internet Identity is a decentralized service, meaning you control your own upgrade timeline. There is no mandatory deadline. The upgrade will remain available indefinitely.
However, we strongly recommend all Internet Identity users to upgrade before January 26, 2026 at https://id.ai.
After this point, users accessing Internet Identity via legacy URLs (https://identity.ic0.app and https://identity.internetcomputer.org) will see the new product and will be required to go through the upgrade flow before they can continue.
3. Will I lose access to Internet Identity 1.0 after upgrading?
No. Upgrading adds a new discoverable passkey for Internet Identity 2.0 without removing your existing Internet Identity 1.0 authentication methods.
This means:
- You can still log in to services using Internet Identity 1.0 as before.
- You can also log in to Internet Identity 2.0-enabled services using your new passkey.
4. Will my Internet Identity number change after upgrading?
On Internet Identity 2.0 you will log in with your discoverable passkey – you will not need to enter your identity number anymore.
5. Can I upgrade from any device?
Yes, as long as the device can:
- Authenticate to Legacy Identity with your existing method, and
- Create a discoverable passkey compatible with Internet Identity 2.0.
Important: Both steps of the upgrade must be done on the same device. You cannot switch devices mid-upgrade, but you can cancel and restart on a different device if needed.
6. What devices are supported during the upgrade?
When upgrading, you will first sign in with your existing Internet Identity number using your current devices. All devices that worked with Legacy Identity will still work for this step.
After authentication, you will create a new discoverable passkey for Internet Identity 2.0. Not all devices that worked in Legacy Identity are supported in 2.0 at this moment.
Verified compatible with Internet Identity 2.0:

Confirmed to have issues with Internet Identity 2.0:
- Dashlane
- NordPass
- Ledger Devices
We are working with partners to address any remaining issues, and this list will be updated as they are resolved.
7. Do I need to upgrade all my devices?
No. You only need to upgrade once for your identity. After that, you can add passkeys for additional devices at any time through Internet Identity 2.0.
